What Is The Feed-In-Tariff?

The Feed-In-Tariff scheme was introduced in April 2010 and since then Spear have been at the forefront of ensuring that customers benefit from the advantages it will bring to the Micro Generation market.

Under the Feed in Tariff Scheme there are three elements benefitting householders and businesses:

  • Generation tariff - A fixed price paid per unit for every kilowatt hour generated (whether you use it or feed it back into the grid!). For most domestic PV systems this price is 43.3p per kWh
  • Export tariff - an additional guaranteed payment of 3p for every kWh exported to the grid.
  • On-site benefit - reduced electricity bills from energy produced and used in the home

Click here for a fuller explanation of the Feed in Tariff.

The Feed-in-Tariff is paid by your energy company. They do not however, offer the money from the goodness of their hearts. They charge a small fee to each of their electricity customers. So, in effect, everyone who invests in a Solar PV installation is paid by those who don't!
