NICEIC Electricians

You’ll often hear electrical contractors talking about NICEIC, but few people realise exactly what that means.

It stands for the National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting, which is the UK’s leading charity protecting the public from unsafe electrical work. They involve themselves in a diverse range of activities setting and certifying quality standards, technical publishing, providing advice and drafting regulations.

NICEIC also publishes a register of approved contractors who have been fully assessed to meet all competency standards, and are annually re-assessed; in this way the public can quickly see whether any electrician or electrical contractor is genuinely qualified and experienced enough to carry out electrical work.

A few of the register requirements include;

• Follow all regulations laid down by the Institute of Electrical Engineers and the British Standards Code of Practice
• Employ competent electricians and provide proper supervision
• Use only materials complying to British Standards
• Maintain £1m Public Liability Insurance
• Undergo regular ongoing inspections
